Rodger Pape, CTRS
Director
With 30 years of horse experience and more than 15 in the non-profit realm, Rodger has clearly found his niche and is continually searching for ways to share his passions with the community, often through side jobs as a guide and adjunct professor for Outdoor Recreation at Utica College, as well as participation in Project Adventure. He has worked with hundreds of students over the years, one of his favorite parts of the job, providing support and encouragement as they pursue their own careers in therapeutic recreation. Rodger has also taught horsemanship to local boy scouts.
Rodger sees progress and transformations on a regular basis in the equine, agriculture and recreation programs he currently overseas at the farm, noting that it is more often the emotional benefits that resonate the most and have the biggest impact. He has seen horses frequently serve as communication vessels, helping kids learn initiative and self-confidence, as well as further engage one’s personality, and feels fortunate to be a part of this process.
I knew that I always wanted to work with people with special needs. I felt compelled to be their voice when it wasn’t heard.
